The Laver Cup makes its West Coast debut as Team Europe faces Team World in the event’s eighth edition, pitting Europe's finest against non-European nations. Named after Australian legend Rod Laver, the competition has captivated fans since 2017, with Team Europe holding a 5-2 lead. This year it arrives at San Francisco’s Chase Center, transforming the Golden State Warriors' arena into a tennis venue from September 19-21.
New captains Andre Agassi (World) and Yannick Noah (Europe) lead star-studded squads. Team Europe boasts world No.1 Carlos Alcaraz fresh off his US Open triumph, alongside Alexander Zverev, Holger Rune, Casper Ruud, rising Czech Jakub MenšĂk, and Italy's Flavio Cobolli. Team World counters with Taylor Fritz, Alex de Minaur, Francisco CerĂşndolo, Alex Michelsen, Brazilian prodigy JoĂŁo Fonseca, and big-serving Reilly Opelka. Eight-time Grand Slam champion Agassi makes his captaining debut with vice-captain Pat Rafter, while Noah takes over from Björn Borg.
Team Europe enters as favorites given its track record and Alcaraz's momentum from seven 2025 titles including back-to-back wins in Cincinnati and the US Open. Still, Team World has home-court advantage and confidence from its 2022-2023 championship run. Fritz’s hard-court pedigree, de Minaur’s Slam consistency, and Fonseca’s breakout Australian Open upset of Andrey Rublev showcase their surprising depth. With $250,000 per player awaiting the winners and Sunday's intensified scoring format, expect a battle that could go down to the wire.
