Few careers in tennis have swung as wildly as Naomi Osaka’s. The four-time Grand Slam champion has seen it all, from dominant title runs to her unexpected 2021 French Open withdrawal. Her maternity leave in 2022 added another layer of uncertainty, as she faced the daunting task of rebuilding her game while managing the pressures that once overwhelmed her.
Now, in Montreal, Naomi Osaka is rising again. With fearless aggression and renewed focus, she’s reminding the world of the form that once made her unstoppable. Her first WTA 1000 quarterfinal in 19 months represents more than tennis success. It's validation of her decision to take time away. Under new coach Tomasz Wiktorowski, she's playing with joy again, proving that vulnerability, when owned and understood, can be transformed into strength.
Osaka’s comeback is still unfolding, but the signs are promising. Her journey is a powerful reminder that champions aren’t just measured by trophies, they’re defined by how they navigate adversity. Her openness about her challenges has been a source of inspiration for athletes everywhere. She’s become a beacon of resilience, with her greatest triumphs potentially still to come.

Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open for "non-medical" reasons after also skipping Toronto. The 24-time Grand Slam champion hasn’t played since losing to Jannik Sinner in the Wimbledon semifinals and will enter the US Open without any hard-court matches this summer.
18-year-old Canadian Victoria Mboko reached the Montreal WTA 1000 semifinals after defeating Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-4, 6-2, becoming the youngest semi-finalist in a decade. The breakthrough follows her stunning upset of world No. 1 Coco Gauff in the previous round.
Ben Shelton earned his 100th career win by defeating Flavio Cobolli in Toronto, becoming the fourth man born since 2002 to reach that mark. Alexander Zverev (b. 1997) achieved his 500th career win over Matteo Arnaldi, becoming the first man born in 1989 or later to reach this benchmark. Andrey Rublev also hit his 250th hard-court victory.
Casper Ruud will compete in his fifth consecutive Laver Cup, joining Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, and Holger Rune on Team Europe. The event takes place September 19-21 at San Francisco's Chase Center, with new captain Yannick Noah replacing Bjorn Borg.
