👑 The Eternal City Crowns Its King 👑

Jannik Sinner became the first Italian man to win the Rome title in 50 years on Sunday, defeating Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-4 in a final that felt inevitable from the moment he broke back from 0-2 down in the opening set. Sinner navigated a demanding draw that included a grueling three-set semifinal against Daniil Medvedev, a match so physically taxing it required two days to complete due to rain. Yet on Championship Sunday, there were no signs of fatigue. He was clinical, composed, and relentless, finishing the match with a inside-out forehand winner that sent the Foro Italico into a frenzy.

The history did not stop there for the world number one. With the Rome title, Sinner completed the Career Golden Masters, becoming only the second player ever to win all nine ATP Masters 1000 events, joining Novak Djokovic, who achieved the feat at age 31. Sinner is just 24. He also extended his consecutive Masters 1000 title streak to six, breaking Djokovic's all-time record, and pushed his overall winning streak to 29 matches. With Carlos Alcaraz sidelined by a wrist injury and Roland Garros starting May 24, Sinner heads to Paris as not just the favorite, but arguably the most dominant player men's tennis has ever seen at this stage of a season.

⚔️ Svitolina's Roman Conquest ⚔️

Elina Svitolina announced herself as a genuine Roland Garros contender with a commanding run through Rome, taking down the world's second, third, and fourth ranked players in consecutive rounds. She dispatched Elena Rybakina in the quarterfinals, outlasted Iga Swiatek in the semifinals, and then did what she has made a habit of doing this season, beating Coco Gauff for the third time in 2026, 6-4, 6-7, 6-2 in a final that saw her claw back from the brink in both the first and third sets. It was gritty, physical, and exactly the kind of tennis that makes Svitolina so difficult to put away when she is locked in.

The story behind the title is as compelling as the tennis itself. Svitolina, 31 and a mother to daughter Skai, has quietly built one of the more remarkable comeback stories in recent women's tennis, and husband Gael Monfils, who watched every match from home, posted a tribute after the final that captured the weight of the moment perfectly. With Monfils heading into what is expected to be his final Roland Garros, the couple carries an emotional backdrop into Paris that is hard to ignore. Svitolina arrives at the French Open having beaten three of the four favorites in the span of a week, and while she has never made a Slam final, nobody in the draw will want to face her right now.
