Felix Auger-Aliassime successfully defended his Montpellier (ATP 250) crown Sunday, defeating home favorite Adrian Mannarino 6-3, 7-6(4) in the final without facing a single break point across 96 minutes. The top seed stormed out to win the first eight points before Mannarino fought back, erasing a championship point at 5-4 in the second set with an unreturned serve. Auger-Aliassime regrouped to win five consecutive points from 4-2 down in the tiebreaker, firing 13 aces and winning 87 percent of first-serve points to close out his ninth career title and eighth on indoor hard courts.

The Montpellier triumph moved Auger-Aliassime past Milos Raonic for the most ATP singles titles by a Canadian in the Open Era. After starting his career 0-7 in finals, the 25-year-old has now won nine of his last 12 championship matches and compiled 89 indoor wins this decade, more than any player on tour. The victory represents a remarkable turnaround from his Australian Open retirement against Nuno Borges due to cramping just three weeks earlier. Auger-Aliassime will rise to world number six on Monday, sitting fewer than 500 points behind Lorenzo Musetti for a return to the top five.
